PROJECT LOCAL LOVE

Building a sustainable tomorrow.

Restoring Asah Waterfalls to its natural beauty.

24 SEPTEMBER 2016

Asah Waterfalls is an idyllic spot located on Tioman Island, nestled in Mukut village and the forest reserves which fall under the care of the Pahang State Government. The park is surrounded by hills and cloaked in a verdant tropical rainforest. It is home to more than 100 species of flora and a variety of fauna. One of its key attractions is the Asah Waterfalls with fresh spring water flowing down from the heights of the Dragons Horn Hills. During the weekends and public holidays, many locals and tourists can be seen thronging the recreation park with picnic activities as the waterfall and streams provide a peaceful place to rest and relax.

On 24 September 2016, 40 volunteers from Care Luxury Hotels & Resorts (Care Luxury CARES) team gathered at the Asah Waterfalls for a Corporate Social Responsibility activity with the Tioman Development Council (TDC) and Public Service Department (JPAM-Tioman). In line with our organisation's commitment towards environmental sustainability, our staff together with the TDC and JPAM -Tioman will carry out a clean-up and restoration activity of the waterfall area. Ms Norliza Jailani, Director of Operations, Tunamaya Beach & Spa Resort - Tioman Island also thanked the Care Luxury Hotels & Resorts (Care Luxury CARES) volunteer team for supporting the CSR event and remarked that the outdoor activity would be a healthy addition to the day-to-day work. Most importantly, the clean-up activity affirmed Care Luxury Hotels & Resorts’ commitment towards preservation of our natural environment.

Our oganisation also undertook the responsibility to give the existing rubbish bins within the recreation park a new leash of life. Our staff together with the TDC & JPAM-Tioman jointly removed plastic bags, non-biodegradable food and drink containers and rubbish left behind previously.

Four teams namely Team Charlie, Alpha, Romeo & Echo (CARE) work hand-in-hand to clean up each zone within a time frame.

All in all, it was a refreshing and fruitful day for our volunteer team and our local partners. The joint efforts towards cleaning and caring for our environment was indeed gratifying and enriching. The activity reinforced in us of the inter-dependence between humans and our mother earth – that we have a role to protect, and preserve our natural surroundings from pollution so that our future generations can enjoy the beauty of Tioman Island.
